Laser Hair Removal

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

The laser is attracted to the pigment in the hair follicle.  Hair goes through 3 phases of growth: anagen (growth phase), telogen (resting phase) and catagen (shedding phase). In order for the root to be effectively destroyed, the hair must be in the anagen or growth phase.  Since not all hairs are in the growth stage at any given time, multiple sessions are required.

Hairs may be dormant for one week and up to one year if removed by the follicle with tweezing or waxing.

Typically, it takes about 2 to 3 weeks for your body to naturally shed the hairs which were effectively treated in the anagen stage, resulting in less hair with each consecutive treatment.  Treated hairs will eventually fall out on its own naturally.

Will It Hurt?

You may feel the occasional light sensation of warmth, heat, and zapping.  With new technologies, its almost painless.

How Many Sessions Will it Take?

Unfortunately there is no specific answer to this.  Generally recommended a minimum of 5 to 7 sessions for excellent results of  hair reduction. This is seen through a steady decrease of 10%- 20% of hair per session. Everyone has different types of skin and hair texture.  You can maintain with electrolysis after laser hair removal to treat any remaining hairs or occasionally wax/shave.

How Often Will My Appointments Be?

At the start, appointments are recommended every 28 days.  After a few treatments,  you will notice less hair growth and appointments will begin to spread further apart as we wait for re-growth.

Will All My Hair Be Gone?

No. Laser hair removal is considered permanent hair reduction, but no hair removal method will remove 100% of all hairs. Once a series is complete, you will be left with some small vellus (baby hairs) as well as some stubborn hair. A successful reduction with laser is 80-90%. Our body is made up of about 5-10% vellus hair leaving approximately 5-10% of stubborn, slow growing hairs. These hairs will be significantly thinner and lighter in color but may still need some attending to.  You can get the occasional laser hair removal maintenance once every few years afterwards.
